Introduction
Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci, or more commonly known as Leonardo da Vinci, was born April 15, 1452 to Messer Piero Fruosino di Antonio da Vinci and Caterina, a peasant. Da Vinci had written in his journals that as an infant he was visited by a hawk one night when he was in his crib, ’It comes to me almost like a dream, the first recollection of my infancy. I was in my cradle and a great hawk flew down to me. It opened my mouth with its tail and its feathers struck me several times inside my lips. That bird seems to me now to have pointed me to my destiny.’ He credited this experience with the cause of his initial interests in flight and more specifically his belief that it was his destiny to fly.
At the age of 24 Leonardo was arrested on an accusation of sodomy. Without a witness, Leonardo was tortured and released.Up until this point in time, Leonardo had not yet explored his inventive abilities and had only created masterpieces of art, not science. In that same year, Leonardo began his creations of war machines and dove into his experiments of flight. Leonardo then perished at the age of 67 on May 2, 1519 leaving behind a legacy of art and mechanisms of different sorts that would later be used to inspire the Wright Brothers and many others who used his research and theories to build the modern world we have today.
Through this website I would like to introduce a world where Leonardo has had an untimely death therefore erasing his journals that, with their extensive detail of flight, are credited with being the inspiration for the modern aircrafts.
